About Ian Carrillo

My name is Ian Carrillo. I live in Virginia working for Newport News shipbuilding serving as a nuclear construction supervisor. I went to Newport News shipbuilding’s Apprentice School as a heavy metal fabricator. I was primarily a crane rigger, burner (oxy-fuel and plasma cutting), messer burning machine operator, press operator, crew lead and long term makeup Foreman. During my time as an apprentice, I took courses ranging from physics and maths to computers and business. I enrolled into the company’s frontline fast program, where I was mentored and trained in leadership development to help promote others as leaders within an organization. I completed the apprenticeship receiving a journeyman card in heavy metal fabrication, being awarded by the Virginia Department of Labor and industry for “Outstanding Apprentice of 2020” and was promptly promoted to a construction supervisor directly reporting to project superintendents. In my current position I plan, oversee and execute both nuclear and non nuclear projects on active aircraft carriers. I am always willing and eager to learn more to diversify my portfolio as a fabricator and manager.
