About Ian Carson

For the past ten years, I have committed myself to becoming a proficient and well-rounded outdoor educator. I received my undergraduate degree in Adventure Education before working as a Behavioral Health Clinical Associate, Head Field Guide, Instructor Trainer, Expedition Coordinator, and Assistant Director of Alaska Crossings, a therapeutically-focused wilderness-based program for underserved Alaskan youth. Since 2014, I have spent over 400 professional days in the backcountry working directly with clients on extended wilderness expeditions, while training and mentoring our field staff. I have also worked in an administrative capacity to monitor and direct the quality of our programming. The many courses I completed to receive my degree in Adventure Education (Messiah College class of 2012) provided me the necessary theoretical training as well as the hands-on technical skills needed to perform capably in this field of work. My experiences in the classroom were tested and refined during my time between academic semesters, as I worked and traveled in various remote locations, both in the United States and abroad. These independent experiences contributed greatly to my overall professional competency, as they developed many key assets to my professional skill set (leadership, adaptability, resilience, creativity). I love working with people of all ages, nationalities, and faiths, and I am friendly and easy to talk to. I find joy in serving others, and working my hardest to ensure that all clients and co-workers are safe, are challenged to achieve personal growth, and feel valued.
