Background
About Ian Chivers
I joined the great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity in December 2012 as Director of Finance and Operations with responsibility for Finance, IT, Operations, Property and Redevelopment, Information Governance, Legal and Compliance and Legacies. My remit was very broad and achievements included: securing and stewarding the largest single donation the charity had ever received, £60 million, designing and leading the implementation of a Salesforce charity wide operating system and overseeing the implementation of a comprehensive remote working capability, ahead of COVID. I retired from this role at the end of March 2020. I have over 20 years’ experience working in financial services, principally at Merrill Lynch where I held a series of COO, CAO and CFO roles in multi Billion $ global and regional businesses. In 2008 to 2010 I worked for the NSPCC as the Director of Finance and in 2012 as the Interim Director of Finance at St Joseph's Hospice, Hackney. Earlier in my career I held a number of finance roles principally in the oil and oil construction industries. I have broad and deep financial experience and a strong understanding of processes and controls, financial planning, reporting and accounting. I have effected substantial improvements in financial controls and operational efficiency. I have been closely engaged in the strategic development, execution and implementation of several major acquisitions (equity broker $1 billion, asset manager $5 billion) and led several business expansion, business start-up, change management, IT and infrastructure projects. I am an ACMA, AMCT (Corporate Treasury) and have a degree in economics. In 2010, I passed the practitioner PRINCE2 project management qualification. I am a highly effective leader, able to motivate and give clear direction to staff. I am able to focus on what is critical and to achieve significant results. I am now looking to build a portfolio career of NED and Trustee roles using and further developing my skills and experience
