About Ian Collier

Someone once said I have a 'zig zag career'. I think the current term is 'portfolio career', or ‘squiggly career’. What that means for me is a life spent learning new things, finding new interests, being generous with time and knowledge and almost never saying 'no' or 'can't' when an exciting opportunity arises. I did a law degree because it was fascinating, but I never wanted to be a lawyer. I wanted to teach and live overseas so I became an ELT teacher and spent time in Poland and Catalunya. I always wanted to get a postgraduate degree so I did that next (in creative writing), and then I got into e-learning through a love of comics which lead me to sequential narrative theory and an application of that to digital product development. Somewhere in all this I won a bursary from John LeCarre. I am very (very) proud of this. It's one thing to want to be good at something, it's a whole other universe to be told that you actually are by someone of significant standing. Today I'm a digital content development professional with nearly twenty years of experience in product design and development on both the editorial/creative and operations/management side, the highlight of which was living and working in Hyderabad in India, setting up and running an operations centre. I like learning new things, developing new skills, discovering new interests, and being the best I can be at whatever I try and do. Right now I am a Customer Engagement Manager with the fabulous Thinqi, and my wife and I own and manage a ranch we have in the amazing Polish Lake District. Here's to trying new things and learning - alway, always learning.
