About Ian Collins

I completed a combined Bachelor's and Master's degree in Economics in 4 years. Along the way, I learned countless lessons about myself and my capabilities. Ultimately, I know I have what it takes. I work for Bristol West Insurance Group (a subsidiary of Farmers Insurance) as a Product Analyst, where I do the coding and data analysis for over 140 million dollars in written premium. I want to work with both data and people for my career. I have a passion for summarizing, gathering insights from, and then visualizing data. I have experience transforming organizational data cultures and building automated products from limited and messy data. I have employed Microsoft Power BI, Microsoft Excel, DAX, SQL and Microsoft Power Automate to build automated dashboards and valuable business products. As for people, I get immense satisfaction from collaboration and improving the efficiency of myself and others. I have extensive coding experience, including but not limited to, R, Python, SQL, SAS, DAX, and MatLab. I leveraged this expertise to complete a challenging Master's Thesis where I used Bayesian estimation to assess the time-varying relationship between GDP and emissions from 1850-2018. I formally presented and defended this thesis to earn my Master's degree.
