About Ian Evans

Currently a Senior at Drake University. I’m studying for my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatrical Design and Technology with a minor in Computer Science. This combination of interests gives me a unique perspective when problem solving and great collaboration skills when working with a team. In theatre, there is always the hard deadline of opening night. Even with all the planning Murphy’s Law inevitably strikes, and often in ways we don’t anticipate. Is anyone hurt/is everyone safe? What is/went wrong? How do we fix the problem and keep it from happening again? Move on, with the lesson learned. I played ice hockey for several years as a teenager. Steps 2 through 4 are what I used as a goalie to constantly, and consistently improve. Once a shot got behind me and in the goal,(which was rare I might add, 0.94 save/shot average) there was no ctrl-z, no undo. So, I would apply those steps. How did it get behind me? How can I stop that shot next time? Don’t dwell on the missed shot because you’ll only play worse. But try as hard as you can to make that save next time. Ha, I just realized these steps are essentially: “analyze, adapt, overcome”. I hate making mistakes, as I assume we all do, but they truly are the best teachers, because hell if I’m going to let number 17 score glove-side on me again.
