About Ian Harr

I am a Professor of Accounting and Certified Public Accountant with 35 years of industry experience and a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) in Accounting. My research examines how regulatory oversight, disclosure regimes, and contractual monitoring environments shape financial reporting quality in U.S. public markets.I study emerging growth companies (EGCs), public–private partnerships and the role of audit oversight in constraining discretionary reporting behavior. Using established empirical models of accrual quality and real earnings management, my work explores how institutional context influences transparency and reporting discipline.In the classroom, I teach financial and managerial accounting with an emphasis on analytical rigor, ethical reasoning, and professional judgment. I help students translate real-world accounting complexity into clear analytical frameworks that support disciplined thinking and principled decision-making.
