About Ian Kimber

With some 20 years experience encompassing working in universities, the Queensland state public service, and higher education regulatory and quality agencies in Australia and the UK, I have achieved a wide range of significant strategic and operational outcomes. In our current environment, assuring the quality of our higher education and meeting critical strategic challenges are more important than ever, and I can help, bringing these attributes: • A proven executive – level leader, strong strategic thinker and manager of people, with over 15 years’ senior experience of setting and achieving vision and strategic outcomes, and producing results in complex organisations. • Demonstrated strength in change, people and financial management. • In depth understanding of approaches to regulation and accreditation, including professional and industry regulation. • Excellent collaborator, and relationship builder. • Particular specialism in policy, regulation and quality assurance across all education sectors, drawing most recently on 3 years as Executive Director, Regulation and Review with the Australian Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) and 5 years in quality development and enhancement with the UK Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) • Extensive experience in international and domestic business development through directing and growing QAA’s innovation and enterprise activities, achieving year on year increases of more than 10% in commercial earnings, including the delivery of significant multi - year international projects, and the development and launch of new products and services. • In depth understanding of government processes, including the development and implementation of legislation, founded with the State government of Queensland, Australia, as Executive Director of the Office of Higher Education for seven years, and Assistant Director General of Tertiary and Non-State Education. • Professional interests and expertise in the interface of higher education quality assurance with other education sectors, the relationship between quality assurance and regulation, and risk – based approaches to both, and integrated approaches to sustainability, quality assurance and engagement.
