About Ian MacPherson
I studied design at Sheridan College and York University and worked as an Art Director at Cossette before making the leap to community development work. I thought this career change would mean leaving design behind, but instead it became a important part of my contribution to many projects, programs and campaigns I've co-created with community over the years. For more than a decade I played a role in shaping a culturally relevant community engagement program reaching over 150 equity deserving schools in the Toronto District School Board. My passion for organization, efficiency, and sustainability led to the creation of u10sils, a revolutionary daily cutlery set designed to reduce single-use plastic waste. A relocation to Hamilton brought me to Empowerment Squared, a burgeoning non-profit with projects locally and internationally, where I am thrilled to be the Senior Manager of Design, Systems, and Operations.
