About Ian McVey

Ian is an experienced professional who has worked with public and private sector organizations to develop and implement sustainability strategy, initiatives, performance measurement, and reporting activities. His experience covers a wide spectrum of industries, including finance, real estate, transportation and mining. Ian has developed particular expertise in the area of carbon measurement and reporting. For Parsons Brinckerhoff, a company with employees and more than 200 offices globally, Ian designed and implemented a process for carbon data collection that enabled the company to produce its first 3rd-party verified global corporate greenhouse gas inventory and therefore meet evolving regulatory requirements. With Manulife Financial, Ian led the development of a corporate response to the 2013 and 2014 Carbon Disclosure Project surveys. As a result of Ian's efforts Manulife saw its carbon disclosure score increase from 54 to to 85 - the most improved within the Canadian financial sector on the 2013 CDP survey. Ian is also active in the sustainable energy arena. He recently joined the board of SolarShare, Canada's largest solar energy co-operative with a total completed portfolio of 1.2 MW of installed capacity valued at over $10M. In his role on the board of directors, Ian's focus is on ensuring the board's accountability to members through the development of a conflict of interest policy. Ian also actively represents the organization at public events. Ian holds a Master's degree focused on sustainable energy finance as well as certifications in carbon accounting and finance, and energy programming and evaluation.
