About Ian Murray

I am currently part of a team integrating medical education with whole health in order to create physicians who will address the pressing needs in healthcare; both current and in the future. I enjoy teaching, regardless if it is 1 student or Of course, being a good teacher is in part due to learning from one's students. I also have many years of experience in mentoring students in research, with students presenting at several international conferences and authoring several peer-reviewed publications. My prior research focused on 2 main areas, diseases of neurodegeneration and medical education. At both McGill, and the University of Pennsylvania, I assisted with several research breakthroughs in obesity, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson's disease. My technical expertise ranges from mass spectrometry (LCMS, MALDI, MS/MS), infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), electron microscopy, electrophoresis techniques, and transgenic models. My current focus in medical education is on identifying quantitative methods in order to improve lectures and medical education. One example is the use of a 1-electrode EEG device to quantify students' attention during lectures.
