About Ian Ogburn

Special Education Instructor with seven (7) years of experience working at the high school level. Additional experience as a print news reporter for a local publication. I am a highly skilled paraeducator who is fluent in American Sign Language. I work daily with students who have special needs. Currently I am working at Roosevelt High School with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students who have multiple disabilities. I also have experience working with students with more impactful disabilities like autism, down syndrome, and behavior disorders. My job duties consist of advocating for Special Education students in academically rigorous classrooms, teaching students how to live with their learning disabilities, communicating with families, developing Individual Education Plans (IEPs), and setting up transportation to and from school. I also work closely with speech pathologists, audiologists, and administration to make sure each student is getting the support they need to thrive. In the springtime I am the head coach of the JV baseball team at Roosevelt High School I have B.A. degrees from Washington State University in Journalism and English. My dream is to work as a journalist who covers a wide variety of subjects. But this does not necessarily mean I want to leave education behind as a career option. I am particularly interested in covering educational justice as a news reporter. I am willing to work part time as a freelance journalist while I continue my job as a paraeducator.
