About Ian Skelskey

Hi, I’m Ian Skelskey—a software engineer who loves solving problems and building things that make a difference. I graduated with a degree in Software Engineering from Arizona State University, and I’ve been on an exciting journey ever since. Right now, I’m contributing to the Evergreen Integrated Library System (ILS), an open-source project supporting library consortia across the country. It’s been rewarding to develop new features and optimize the database to help libraries operate more efficiently. I’m also continuing my work on the Field Day project, a tool for managing wildlife data, where I designed a user-friendly web interface and helped establish coding standards to ensure the project’s long-term success. Before diving into software full-time, I gained a lot of valuable experience working as a tutor and team leader. Teaching computer science concepts like SQL and JavaScript gave me a solid understanding of how to break down complex problems. And during my time at Starbucks as a Shift Supervisor, I learned how to manage teams and stay cool under pressure—skills that translate surprisingly well to software development. What really drives me is the intersection of technology and creativity. Whether it’s contributing to open-source projects, designing intuitive user interfaces, or exploring game development, I’m passionate about creating tools and experiences that people love to use. Looking ahead, I want to keep growing as a developer by tackling challenging projects and collaborating with teams that share my curiosity and drive. Eventually, I hope to channel everything I’ve learned into creating my own software products.
