About Ian Stromquist

Ian Stromquist is the Environmental Health Response Coordinator with Hood River County Health Department. Ian is a registered Environmental Health Specialist and holds a Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Northern British Columbia. Ian is no stranger to Environmental Health; since 2006, Ian has worked for Coos and Hood River County Environmental Health. Also, Ian was the President of the Oregon Environmental Health Association. Previously, Ian spent several years working in varied industries including: public needs assessment consulting, high school education, pesticide application, swimming pool facilities and retail food. Ian now works with a wide range of State mandated programs including: public drinking water systems, food protection, child care facilities, recreational & tourist facilities, communicable diseases investigation, emergency preparedness, and on-site waste water systems. During the COVID-19 response, initially, Ian lead information distribution to licensed facilities and supported efforts to connect people needing services affected by COVID-19. Once the vaccine became available, Ian assumed the role of 'Planning','Logistics', and 'Operations' Chief for vaccine dispensing operations. Significant success in COVID vaccine distribution was recognized, and Hood River County had the highest vaccine rate among Oregon Counties. This was, in part, due to efficient and rapid distribution of vaccine supplies; this qualified our area for additional supplies early during the vaccine roll-out. Additionally, Ian held an elected position on the Columbia Gorge Education Service District Board ('Zone 6', Hood River County Voting Precincts: 1, 2, & 5). Ian was appointed to this position in July 2019, and formally elected in May 2021. Ian's term finished after a change of residence resulted in no longer qualifying for the position; Ian's term ended 6/30/23.
