I formerly taught in FE colleges and prisons with private tuition as a subsidiary occupation. I have just had my first, very successful, year as a full-time private maths tutor. All my students have passed at GMAT, QTS, A level or GCSE. One got 100% in two AS papers. My aim is to open up the world of maths to those who fear it or find it confusing and enable them to pass the exams they need to progress. Most of my students attend secondary school/ college. Among my best success stories have been students with dyslexic tendencies or other learning differences that affect their maths. Most of these were effectively cast aside to 'aim' at a 'C' Others have been categorised as art, design, textile or or practical subject specialists and given little chance to explore other talents. One of these will get an 'A' at GCSE. A second will be having a crack at A level! When I turned full time, I put my lower age boundary for tutoring these students at 15. Since then, several parents have entrusted children at all ages from 11 upwards.Very pleasingly, it has turned out that my methods work very well with this younger (KS3 in the UK). I have managed to explain maths to several in this group to a point were they look forward to learning more. In addition to standard UK school qualifications, I support 13+/ Common Entrance Maths. With my background, I have plenty of experience with helping adults, including those with maths fear or learning differences. to pass all the 'normal' maths exams including Functional Maths. A growing proportion of my adult students, however are those finding difficulty with numeracy competence and numerical analysis tests such as QTS, GMAT, UKCAT. Again I have had considerable success in helping such students in the last year. My first website, just published, is aimed specifically at adults.
