About Iara Roberto

As a bilingual journalist I want to not only deliver and provide reliable information and knowledge to the world, but I want to serve a spec of the population in the U.S that often lacks accurate, reliable research and information: the Spanish-speaking community. After receiving my B.A degree in in Broadcast Journalism from The University of Texas at Arlington, I worked at Telemundo Abilene as the producer and anchor for the 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. as well as a bilingual MMJ for Telemundo, KTAB News, and KRBC News. There I had the privilege to serve my community but felt the need to expand my knowledge in the communications field and acquire more research skills to better inform and serve the public. Now I’m at Oklahoma State University working toward my M.S in Mass Communications. With my previous experience in professional and collegiate news, I work as a Teaching Assistant to help undergraduate professors educate and train a new generation of young journalists. At OSU I also serve as a project manager for in-depth multimedia reporting projects and I am part of the Student Media Board. Currently I am looking for a producing and/or reporting internship where I can sharpen my skills and learn new things every day. At UT Arlington I served as the News Director and Producer for UTA News en Español as well as the president for the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, UTA Student Chapter. I acquired experience producing hyper-local stories for UTA News as well as for UTA News en Español centered around issues affecting the Hispanic community. As part of Telemundo Universitario (internship program) I had the privilege to participate in trainings with Telemundo journalists, producers, anchors and technical directors, airing content for Telemundo 39 in Dallas, and produced news stories for national distribution through the Telemundo News Service. I also interned at Univision 23 Dallas with Proyecto U where I produced two in-depth stories for the station and received one-on-one mentorship from award-winning journalists.
