About Ichiro Imae
I am primarily engaged in synthesizing novel π-conjugated polymers, especially polythiophenes, and analyzing the relationship between their molecular structure and optical, electrochemical, and electrical properties. My work also extends to developing materials with nanocarbon compounds, including carbon nanotubes, graphene, and graphene oxide. In particular, I focus on creating composite materials, including combinations of π-conjugated polymers and nanocarbon compounds, nanocarbon compounds with each other, π-conjugated polymers with metal oxides like silica, and nanocarbon compounds with metal oxides. My goal is to apply these materials to energy-related devices such as organic thermoelectrics and smart windows, and I am also interested in applications for water purification membranes and photocatalysts. In my research environment, I use X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), electrochemical analyzers (CV and coulometer), UV-visible-NIR spectrophotometers, resistivity meters, and a custom-built Seebeck coefficient measurement device to enable comprehensive property evaluations. I am open to collaborative research with university researchers in related fields, and I welcome opportunities for joint or contract research with companies.
