About Ikechukwu W. Eke
Dr Ikechukwu Williams Eke holds an MA in Communication & Language Arts from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria. He also holds a PhD in Communication Sciences from the North-West University, Mahikeng, South Africa. Eke started his career in the media as a news reporter; he would later become a sub-editor, and then an editor. He has worked as an editorial consultant for some media companies and individuals. After he quit active media practice, Eke continued to work as a freelance writer and copy editor. In 2014, Eke joined the faculty of American University of Nigeria (AUN), where has served as coordinator of AUN Writing Foundation Program, editor of the CMD-AUN News Website, and coordinator of the UNICEF-AUN MSc in Communication for Social & Behavior Change. He is currently the Chair of the Department of Communications & Multimedia Designs; he is also the Director of the UNICEF-AUN MSc in Communication for Social & Behavior Change, and he is a member of the AUN Senate, and a member of Curriculum Committee of the AUN School of Arts & Sciences. Eke has been a speaker at several international and national conferences, such as the 2nd PhD seminar of the International Association for Minority Language Media Research (IAMLMR) at the European Centre for Minority Issues (ECMI), Flensburg, Germany; the Social Media, Fake News and Hate Speech Conference of the Indigenous Language Media in Africa (ILMA) Research Entity, South Africa; and the International Conference of the Gender Studies Programme/Women As Financially Independent Rural Actors (WAFIRA) at the Institute of African Studies, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Eke, who consulted as a subject expert for the development Research and Projects (dRPC) on the EmpowerHer Media Initiative (EMI), has published research articles in reputable international journals. He specializes in journalism practice, digital/social media studies, indigenous/minority language media, trauma journalism, strategic communication, and applied linguistics.
