I like creative work, such as coding in C++ or other languages, figuring out some Linux-specific (or other OS) behavior, designing an OOP system to be easily maintainable, or solving actual optimization problems. I also pride myself in creativity when working with people. I've learned to constantly imagine myself in the other party's position. It allows me to better understand their needs or thinking. The other party may be an unhappy client who runs into unexpected behavior of the product, a coworker in peer review, or a manager or team member who has different ideas about priorities or design. Once better understanding is reached, it's easier to negotiate a solution (or compromise) to satisfy all."Debugging, architecture/design, coding, support, testing"- this was my answer when asked once to rate these 5 fundamental software engineering tasks by my personal preference. It wasn't easy. I really like all. They each require a different kind of creativity. I discovered software in my childhood with the first computer we had at home. I started by typing in example programs from the user manual, and later on wrote my own. A lot has changed since that Radio Shack TRS-80. My passion for developing software remained.
