About Ilkka Virtanen

I am currently working as International Relations Manager at Tampere University. My task is to create and manage university’s strategic research partnerships and networks and to facilitate the creation of new active research collaboration. In my work, I work closely with university’s top leadership and research and international offices across the world. Prior to current post, I headed seven years university’s Research and Innovation Services, where I gained in-depth experience of research funding, research collaboration mechanisms, agreements and intellectual property rights. The unit also supported commercializing research results and the creation of new businesses and entrepreneurship. I have over 20 years’ experience of diverse research collaboration and research funding and of the support of prominent research groups. Previously I have also worked in support of business information management, medicine and biosciences. I am a keen organizer, facilitator and participant of workshops, seminars and conferences. I’ve also led several organizational development projects. By education, I am a Master of Science in administration and have a diploma in financial management.
