About Ilya Petrov

I break things apart to make sense of them and build control. With that clarity, I shift perspectives and provoke thinking to spark growth and shape better futures. If we get the chance to know each other (which I hope we do), you’ll see I’m mostly a fan of three things – ideas, stories, and people. Ideas change the world. Stories are how ideas travel. And people are full of stories and ideas. For 22 years, I’ve been in love with marketing. Good marketing connects good people with a good product that makes their lives better. To master it is to understand how people think and behave – and how to influence that. Marketing is also the best science of life. I believe the most exciting things around us are built by entrepreneurial minds. While they’re often driven by passion for the product, they can miss the business side. I’m on a mission to fill that gap and help good businesses grow. At seven, I built my first video game. By fourteen, I knew eleven programming languages and was part of a hacker crew. Since then, I’ve dreamed of creating new digital worlds. Today, software defines how everything around us behaves. Software developers create the very world we live in. At JetBrains, we work to make development productive and enjoyable. My role is to connect developers who care about how it’s built (not just that it compiles) with tools that are just as crazy about the details as they are. I’m also on a mission to help engineers make sense of AI and the shifts in the industry – getting the best out of new technology while staying sane.
