About Imara Crooms

Recently returned to Washington, DC from my Program Director post in Rabat, Morocco, I am a democratic governance expert in the field of international relations, with extensive experience in team leadership, project management, design, monitoring and evaluation. From my early days of studying political science and the principles of democratic governance, my life has been consumed by continued studies within the field and a growing sense of civic duty and responsibility. That sense of civic duty and responsibility drove a professional focus on principles of democratic governance, which in turn led me from Essex County College and Rutgers University to Georgetown over the course of my academic life. At Georgetown I earned my Masters from the University's Center for Democracy and Civil Society before eventually landing at the International Republican Institute. My work at the International Republican Institute and more broadly within the sector of Democracy and Governance offers an excellent outlet for problem solving and political analysis within an intellectually challenging and continually evolving work environment. Particularly since moving to Rabat I've been provided with the rare opportunity to observe, engage and directly support the application of democratic principles in a blend of academic ideals and practical realities.
