Background
About Imran Choudhury
As a recent graduate of the University of Bath in mechanical engineering, I am passionate about applying my skills and knowledge to designing and developing innovative solutions for complex problems. I am looking for graduate engineering roles after completing my master's degree in 2025. For the 2024 season, I was appointed Head of Aerodynamics for Team Bath Racing Electric, the University of Bath's Formula Student team. This role had me collaborating with a talented and diverse team of young engineers who shared my enthusiasm for creating a competitive and reliable race car. During the 2024 season, I developed the team's first-ever verified full-car CFD model, complete with a moving ground plane and rotating tyres. This model helped us design the team's first complete and legal aerodynamics package, including a front wing, rear wing, sidepods and a diffuser. Additionally, I helped design an improved cooling system for the car's accumulator using track data and hand calculations to give the team confidence in the system's reliability. All of this work allowed us to design a car that was competitive at Formula Student UK and achieved second place at Formula Student Portugal with no overheating or legality issues. Through this role, I gained a strong understanding of aerodynamics within motorsports and became confident in developing, modelling, and testing aerodynamic concepts in rapid timeframes. Additionally, I expanded my leadership skills by managing a team of 10 fellow engineers. I utilised CFD and lap-time simulations to enhance the team's understanding of aerodynamic maps, isochronal ratios, and the trade-offs between lift and drag for the specific types of tracks seen in Formula Student events. I gained further knowledge through the Accelerate 25 mentoring programme hosted by the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team. This programme taught me about F1 aerodynamics, wind tunnel testing, and the methods involved in creating, testing, and manufacturing designs. Through my degree and industrial placement at Chess Dynamics, I have gained valuable experience working in a collaborative environment with experienced industry specialists. I have used CAD to develop robust designs for harsh environments, conducted thorough physical tests and simulations, and produced industry-standard technical drawings and documentation. I have also demonstrated problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills and a keen interest in learning new technologies and methods. I am eager to apply these skills and competencies to new challenges and opportunities.
