About Ina Jurga

Passionate about building partnerships around menstruation, linking WASH, SRHR, education and gender equality for collective impact and innovation* Ina Jurga has more than 20 years of profound expertise in the area of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), with more than 13 years on the issue of menstrual health & hygiene (MHH). In 2014, WASH United initiated Menstrual Hygiene Day on 28 May, which is the largest awareness and advocacy platform around periods and menstrual health & hygiene. Ina is the co-initiator and International Coordinator for the day, managing the partnerships of more than 1,100 organisations. In this position, she is also working on partnerships, knowledge management, and advocacy all year round, including being a core team member of the Global Menstrual Collective and the lead content specialist for the periodtax.org platform and the MHM Education Guide. She has worked in a range of developing and emerging countries on long-term (China, Uganda, DPR Korea, India) and short-term assignments (Bangladesh, Burundi, Cambodia, DRC Congo, Kenya, Nepal) for different UN agencies, the German government and for other key partners. Ina Jurga holds a civil engineering degree and has completed a work- accompanying ‘International Master of Public Policy’ at the Humboldt-Viadrina School of Governance in Berlin, Germany. She has substantial experiences of the ‘software’ side of WASH, i.e. behaviour change approaches, policy and advocacy. She has led user-centred design processes for educational solutions and assessed sanitation innovations in China for their market-readiness.
