Currently, I am the Head of Microbiology and Molecular Biology laboratories at Centro de Apoio Tecnológico Agro Alimentar (CATAA) where I am involved in research, provision of analytical services and supervision of students. I am highly interested in the gut microbiota and how it affects host health. I am involved in clinical trials with nutritional interventions. I write and coordinate several R&D projects in my host institution, which now include European Projects such as Horizon. I am author and co-author of several scientific papers in international journals with impact factor and chapter books. I am a regular reviewer for several scientific journals and I am an invited Special Issue Editor for international journals. I am an affiliated researcher at the Centre for Functional Ecology (CFE), TERRA Associate Laboratory, University of Coimbra.
