Background
About Inga Bartuseviciene
After getting MSc in Mathematics I was involved in retail and later international transportation business. Willingness to share with students my experience of, and knowledge about, the management of private business brought me to the Lithuanian Maritime Academy (LMA) in to become my principal workplace for the subsequent 19 years, including last six years in the position of Deputy Director for Academic Affairs. Studies at the World Maritime University (WMU) specializing in Maritime Education and Training (MET) opened my mind and helped me understand an international nature of the maritime business, and MET role in ensuring maritime safety on a global scale. After graduating from the WMU in 2003, I returned to the LMA, bringing ideas of how to make the Academy a modern and attractive place for work and studies. I contributed to the implementation of over 20 projects by attracting investments from the EU funds (i.e. ERDF, ESF, EFF, Twinning) in order to significantly upgrade the LMA educational environment: improve educational infrastructure, i.e. 12 different simulators were upgraded/installed, i.e. maritime simulators renewed and combined into a virtual ship; Klaipėda Port model was developed and installed in the Bridge simulator and used to train pilots to navigate the LNG FSRU Independence to the Klaipėda Port, etc; teaching/learning innovations were introduced, i.e. a Knowledge and e-Services Centre was established in the library; research, international relations, and expert activities were extended, e.i. Twinning projects in Turkey, etc. Teaching teachers and students and theoretical insights encouraged me to search for an answer to the question: what teaching/learning innovations should be used to improve learning outcomes? That led up to complete PhD in Education Sciences and investigate the topic further by applying innovations in education. Anyone willing to share ideas about improvement of teaching and learning is very welcome to contact me.
