About Inge van Balgooij

From the school library to my adult home office, my love of language is something that’s been with me my entire life. I translated my passion for the Dutch and English language into a BA in English and an MA in translation studies, with a focus on literary translation. As a professional subtitler, I focus on being creative and playful with language while maintaining the essence of a message and conveying it to a target audience within strict deadlines and limited screen real estate. Currently, I’m looking to hone those skills and passions even more as a translating digital nomad, combining an awareness of the growing role of AI and technological developments with the importance of the human touch. A personal approach to linguistic challenges is vital for me, since storytelling is at the heart of the human experience. Outside my professional life I adore exploring cross-disciplinary stories in video games and collaborative storytelling (D&D, writing projects with other writers). I herd a terrible duo of cats who refuse to pay rent, and I like exploring a smorgasbord of new skills and knowledge to develop myself professionally and privately.
