About Ingo Frommholz

As a Full Professor and Head of the School of Applied Data Science at Modul University in Vienna, Austria, I hold a strong background in the fields of Data Science, Information Retrieval and AI. Prior to my current position, I served as a Reader (equivalent to Associate Professor) in Data Science at the University of Wolverhampton, UK. During this tenure, I played a pivotal role in establishing and leading the Data Science and AI research group, DAIREL. My research interests encompass user-oriented information retrieval (IR), artificial intelligence (AI), natural language processing (NLP), data science, and digital libraries, and their application in various disciplines, including the social sciences and digital humanities. I served as the General Chair of ACM CIKM 2023 in Birmingham, where I oversaw the submission and evaluation of 650 papers in the domains of IR, AI, and knowledge management. I'm the Principal Investigator (PI) of the EU Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska Curie Staff Exchange project OMINO, which aimed to address the challenges of information overload. Furthermore, I was the PI of the EU H2020 MSCA European Training Network QUARTZ, which focused on developing quantum-inspired information retrieval techniques. I have been actively involved in European and nationally funded projects that have contributed to advancements in information retrieval, digital libraries, and digital humanities. My collaborations with highly esteemed research and industry partners have been instrumental in fostering innovation and knowledge exchange. Furthermore, I have led commercial software projects as a consultant, providing guidance and expertise to businesses in the field. I have successfully guided several PhD students to academic success. I'm senior managing editor of the International Journal on Digital Libraries (http://link.springer.com/journal/799) and hold the position of chair of the BCS Information Retrieval Study Group (BCS-IRSG). My extensive experience includes serving as a senior programme chair member and reviewer for numerous world-renowned conferences, including SIGIR, ECIR, CIKM, ICTIR, JCDL, and TPDL. Additionally, I have successfully organised workshops and schools dedicated to the field of information retrieval. My teaching expertise encompasses a diverse range of computer science topics, encompassing information retrieval, artificial intelligence, machine learning, databases, data modelling and management, data structures and algorithms, programming, internet technologies, and distributed and parallel computing.
