BAFTA and multi-award-winning documentary Director, Producer and Executive Producer. Independent consultant. Strategic team leader. Trainer and advisor. Previously Manager (head) of Documentaries at Al Jazeera English 2014 to 2023, leading the editorial and strategic vision, overseeing doc strands and managing over a quarter of the Channel's output: 250-300 documentaries a year in strands (Witness, Al Jazeera World, Correspondent) and stand-alone single docs and occasional series. Decades of experience in global docs, as a multi award-winning filmmaker/director/producer, Exec Producer and Commissioner. Named awards (won) include a BAFTA, RTS, Japan Prize and others plus an International Emmy nomination. Departmental awards (won) under my leadership include a Peabody, Emmy, International Emmy, Golden Panda, many NY Film Festivals and others. Extensive senior management experience in fast-moving, complex and high risk international contexts. Special interest in exploring the power-base of documentary story-telling and filmmaking approaches; challenging prevailing narratives; nurturing new talent, especially voices/talents from the global south; current affairs. Judge on numerous TV/documentary juries and awards panels. Academic background in international development studies and African Economic History. Boards and Trustee experience.
