About Ingrid Halvarsson

I was born and brought up in Sweden where i undertook my nurse training. I've been working as a qualified nurse for over 28 years, the last 23 years in Surgical Short Stay Unit RSFT, having the role of the sister the last 14 years. I was instrumental in setting up the unit, developing pathways with the aim of effective and efficient flow of the Surgical patients whilst maintaining safety. I have over the years developed my leadership skills both through attending an in house course, experience and in recognising and dealing with unexpected situations. I understand the relevance in good communication in relation to patients safety within the boundaries of confidentiality. In my current role I have deputised for the senior sister. I have organising structures that keeps Audits and SAM-training easy to manage, as well as maintaining polices and disseminating relevant information to staff. I have undertaken staffs PDRs and revalidation. I have initiated and planned staff meeting and sister's meeting. I have organised for Consultants and specialists nurses to provide staff training. I am the lead in training students as well as being a preceptor for newly qualified nurses and over-seas nurses. I have set up a regular routine amongst staff where we have a brief wellbeing meeting every Friday to discuss what was good and what was not so good over the week. As a person I'm resilient, organised, responsible and a good listener.
