About Ingrid Sever

My passion is to inspire people to have faith in themselves and to believe in their inner genius!"- I attended the University of Western Ontario and got accepted as a mature student. Since I was commuting and raising two young children, I took a part-time course load and eventually got all my credits and graduated in 2004 while my children were in the audience. It was a very proud moment-I attended Daemen College in Amherst, New York because the Canadian Scholars Program best suited my needs. In 2006 I graduated with my Master's of Science In Education Degree. I wrote my thesis on English as a Second Language Learners-I worked Avon District School Board and Huron-Perth District School Board as an occasional teacher. I worked with both school boards for seven years and had two long-term assignments with AMDSB-In 2012, I packed my belongs, went on an adventure that changed my life, and view of life. I moved to Quaqtaq, Quebec (on the tip of Ungava Bay) to teach Inuit children. I lived in isolation for three years while teaching grades 7, 8, 9, and all subjects. I successfully taught at École Isummasaqvik for three years. Teaching in an Inuit community was a unique and immense experience that I am very grateful for. I learned more than I taught. Earning the trust of students and creativity was essential. The responsibilities as a teacher in this remote community go beyond just being a teacher. The workload is much greater with limited resources. I belonged to many committees, volunteered, and dealt with many crises-After being away for three years from my family, it was time to come back to my hometown of London, Ontario. I obtained a job at Al-Taqwa Islamic Elementary School and taught there successfully and was the administrator of the school wide Science Fair. I brought 45 students to the London Science and Engineering Fair and had 9 medal winners!
