About Inis Serrano

I am passionate about bridging the gap between preclinical research and clinical practices that lead to advancing our understanding of complex brain disorders and, more importantly, to tangible benefits for patients and their families. I specialize in preclinical behavioral pharmacology, concentrating on the design, execution, delegation, data evaluation, and interpretation of in vivo studies that assess the therapeutic potential of classical, atypical, and novel psychedelics in treating psychiatric and neurological disorders. I work closely with an interdisciplinary team - including medicinal chemists, neuropharmacologists, microscopy research experts, and other in vivo specialists - to reverse translate the clinical impacts of psychoactive and psychedelic substances (such as Ariadne and 5-MeO-DMT) into preclinical frameworks where we investigate their mechanisms of action. Fresh mechanistic insights subsequently facilitate a forward translation process to design and develop new experimental therapies for the eventual improvement of the lives affected by psychiatric and neurological conditions. I oversaw the recruitment and training of the behavioral team and now lead them in the Dalibor Sames lab, where we conduct behavioral studies that have resulted in several publications and early patent applications. Additionally, I assist in securing funding from private donors by creating engaging and interactive presentations of my research findings.
