Background

About Inness Yeoman

I'm a RIBA Part II Architectural Assistant graduate from the Mackintosh School of Architecture, born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland. I have over eight years of professional experience working on a variety of projects across different cities, sectors and stages of development. Throughout my architectural education, I balanced part-time and full-time roles at Stallan-Brand Architecture + Design. I began working at Stallan-Brand at age 18, where our talented team dedicated a significant amount of time to equipping me with exceptional skills in Design Workflow and Visual Communication. During my time there, I witnessed the team grow from 15 to nearly 40 members. With their guidance and my experience working on diverse projects, I gained an incredible understanding of architecture and the construction industry, which I successfully applied to my university studies. Paul Stallan nurtured a rational and compassionate approach to design philosophy that has positively shaped my perspective on the world, influencing my understanding of art, design, and the built environment. I am a fast learner who takes pride in advancing and adapting my design, software, and workflow skills. My architectural interests extend to Conservation, Urban Regeneration, Sustainable Community Development, and Architecture & Critical Theory. I am particularly dedicated to researching urban planning through the lens of Jan Gehl's realisations, which inspired my thesis on understanding Glasgow within this context. I enjoy working on projects of all types and new challenges motivate me to learn. I am interested in both urban and rural contexts. In my own time, I am an avid reader, runner, and have a deep appreciation for music and art. I collect rare and obscure CDs, tapes, records and interesting books on architecture, and I keep myself updated on the latest trends, technologies, and advancements in architecture and related fields. In 2023 I moved to Kazakhstan for several months to direct a start-up architecture studio with a former Associate Director of Jan Gehl (now Gehl People). To win projects, I was first to arrive at the office and last to leave. As the only studio championing sustainable design, it helped shape my workflow, communicating with staff in the Russian language and delegating tasks to designers and architects of varied talents, sharing my skills and knowledge I learned at Stallan-Brand. On return to Glasgow, I work seasonally as a Visiting Lecturer teaching design philosophy and software skills to Product Design students at the Glasgow School of Art. Inness Yeoman
