About Iola Abas

I began my journey in the nonprofit world through fundraising, not knowing it would eventually lead me into campaigns, research, and coalition work. What has stayed consistent throughout is my dedication to social and environmental justice, and my commitment to working alongside communities and ecosystems that are often left out of policy decisions. Over the past 15 years, I’ve worked across issues of climate, land use, and governance, shaping strategies, building partnerships, coordinating campaigns, and helping turn complex challenges into stories and actions people can connect with. These days, I lead a national civil society coalition that monitors restoration efforts and advocates for land-use policies that reflect both data and the voices of those most affected. I enjoy working in the in-between spaces, where grassroots realities meet national policy, where evidence informs advocacy, and where collaboration is essential. I’ve held many roles over the years, fundraiser, campaigner, researcher, team lead, and each one has shaped how I lead and listen. I’m always open to new collaborations and meaningful work that brings people, purpose, and impact together.
