About Irfaan Peerun

With over 10 years of teaching experience in Malaysia and Australia, Dr. Irfaan has delivered a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in civil engineering and construction management. One of his key contributions is the development of the Digital and Spatial Technologies course which has played a pivotal role in integrating Digital Engineering into other third-year and master’s degree courses. For the past few years, Irfaan has been leading the Minecraft to Reality STEM outreach program, engaging students across various schools in Southeast Queensland. As a subject matter expert for Bentley Systems, he is co-leading the digital twin project at Griffith University. In addition to his academic role, Dr. Irfaan is a Senior Geotechnical Engineer (Designer) with extensive expertise in trenchless technology design. His professional portfolio includes the successful delivery of complex infrastructure projects utilising advanced methods such as horizontal directional drilling (HDD), pipe-jacking and slip lining. Irfaan specialises in performing detailed underbore calculations, including jacking force assessments, load analysis, hydrofracture assessments, and settlement predictions, while ensuring strict compliance with the technical standards of Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR), Queensland Rail (QR), Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW), and Sydney Water. His proficiency in preparing comprehensive road and railway monitoring plans highlights his dedication to safety, sustainability, and engineering precision. Beyond his professional contributions, Dr. Irfaan is deeply committed to advancing the field of trenchless technology through scholarly contributions, including his publication on sustainable pipe-jacking technologies in urban environments.
