About Iris Ederer

I was born in Weiz, Austria. After attending the local music school where I learned how to play the recorder and flute, I began to study jazz singing and piano playing. Apart from performing as a soloist, I gained experience in choir singing with various choirs, one of them won prizes at the International Schubert Competition in Vienna. After studying at the Carinthian State Conservatorium in Klagenfurt, I continued to study at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz and completed my studies in Jazz Singing and teaching Jazz and Pop Singing. I have taken part in various recordings as sideman and as a leader, an example being the recording with my gospel choir “Gospel Group Puch“. For many years I have given one-to-one singing lessons and have led workshops at various schools. Moreover, I have run various jazz, pop and gospel choirs, with ages ranging from children to adult. This included, for example, the students Jazz choir at the University for Music and Performing Arts in Graz for three years. I perform on a regular basis with various musicians, taking part in projects such as “Vociferous“ – (CD Tessellations II for singers on Emanem) – a cooperation with the British pianist, composer and improvisor Veryan Weston. For three years I organised the CHOIR FIRE festival in Weiz, Austria, which featured choirs with varying styles and backgrounds.
