About Iris Godwin

Experience in development of instructional content for high school and undergraduate students (traditional and non-traditional), individual research consultations, library workflows and management, subject liaison work for allied health and nursing includes collection development, research and use of professional standards. Most recent enjoyable class taught was a two hour dental hygiene class creating an information literacy pre-test in Office Mix and grading an activity where students created a Patient, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome (PICO) question and paralleling a description of the library instruction on PubMed and research techniques presented in class to see improvement in student evidence-based practices. As I teach information literacy, I want undergraduate and graduate students to be prepared to function effectively in a highly developed information world and develop problem solving strategies. By professionally cataloging materials (monographic, serials, DVDs, maps) for the library, I provide essential access to knowledge for our students, and users at all levels from local to international. Cataloging is a core support for library instruction; without access, there is no instruction. Recent activities include attending ALA summer of 2015 and a workshop: Resource Description and Access (RDA) Janethon, coordinating with the Alliance to set up Archivists Toolkit for maintaining inventory of the Shaw Historical Library, entering collections into the accessions and resources modules of this archival tool, and continuing to learn more about DACs and EAD.
