About Isaac Bender

I am an archaeologist with almost a decade of experience in Cultural Resource Management and academic archaeology in Canada and the United States. My expertise lies in utilizing advanced remote sensing techniques including drone mapping (LiDAR, photogrammetry, and multispectral imaging), archaeological geophysics (GPR, magnetometry, and electromagnetic surveying, etc.), and GIS, to identify, document, and interpret sites. As a Transport Canada certified advanced operations drone pilot and flight reviewer, I also bring a high level of proficiency to aerial surveying and data collection. My master's thesis focuses on refining non-invasive survey methods to identify unmarked graves in Southwestern Ontario. The research contributes to a national effort to refine field methods to help inform the field operations of community-led investigations into missing children at Residential Schools. I am proud to have collaborated with several Indigenous communities on various archaeology projects, both commercial and academic, and I actively try to ensure community voices and ideas are at the forefront of the work that I'm involved with.
