Background

About Isabel Berwick

I lead the FT's Working It brand, which covers the workplace, future of work, management and leadership, across audio, video and events of all sorts. I write a weekly Working It newsletter, landing in FT subscribers' inboxes every Wednesday (free to sign up if you have an FT sub at home or work - go to ft.com/newsletters). I hosted a whopping 153 episodes of the Working It podcast - that's retired for now, but we have many ideas for the future. And if you have a problem to solve at work, chances are we did a podcast on it - check out our archive on Apple and Spotify etc etc. My job is increasingly pivoting to video (as they say), in long and short formats. We are currently filming season two of our FT Working It future of work series.[Find S1 on YouTube ->1mn views] My book, The Future Proof Career, was published by HarperCollins in 2024 and the paperback is coming in August. I love talking to people about the book, their careers and all the crazy stuff that happens in workplaces. I really enjoy chairing and moderating panels and interviews, inside and outside the FT, and I am a keynote speaker on workplace themes. Earlier in my career I won a Wincott Foundation award for personal finance reporting. It doesn't get better than that for a reporter, so I switched to editing: the hours were less punishing. Since then I've had great jobs on FT Weekend, as deputy editor of FT Magazine, then on Life & Arts and then associate editor of the Opinion section. I got into the management/workplace arena as editor of FT Work & Careers from 2018 until early 2023. A long time ago I was personal finance editor and then business editor of the Independent on Sunday. What else? I am a fellow of the RSA, attended the Aspen Institute UK leadership course in 2024 (highly recommend) and the coveted DO Lectures (camping, connections) in 2025. Events like this get me out of the jourmalism bubble: I learn so much from leaders and entrepreneurs. I am especially interested in education and social mobility. I was a longtime trustee of a charity supporting music in state schools and am now a school governor in my home borough of Camden, and on the Speakers for Schools roster. My speaking agents:
