About Isabel MacPhillamy

Isabel is currently working with the Western Australian Government in a field based veterinary officer role in Kununurra. This role involves on farm disease investigations, engaging with large and small producers regarding biosecurity and preparedness. She is also gaining experience in the animal health policy space. Within her previous role as a project officer for livestock development projects in South East Asia Isabel gained experience in project management, research protocol development and general experiences in working in agricultural development in South East Asia. She was a regular attendee at regional OIE SEACFMD meetings, helping to contribute to the regional efforts to control foot-and-mouth disease (FMD). Isabel's PhD is focused on the challenges associated with FMD control in Laos and Cambodia. She is particularly interested in the challenges associated with disease surveillance and outbreak responses in this context. Other interests include applied epidemiology, disease control programs, public health and regional biosecurity. Isabel is looking to continue to gain skills and knowledge in these areas in the veterinary and human health sectors.
