About Isabela Cabral

I am fluent in Portuguese, French, English, and Spanish, and am currently learning Italian. I am self taught in all but English, as I learned it as a teenager. On research experience, I have completed two comparative research projects with Prof. Edison Rodrigues Barreto Jr, focusing on Canada and Brazil. The first one compared Africville in Halifax and Morro da Providência, in Brazil, discussing the effects of gentrification and city planning. The second was a project comparing affirmative action towards women in Brazil and Canada. On work experience, I have recently completed a CO-OP intern position with the United Nations' World Food Programme. I’ve been interested in food security and migrant rights since my first years of university, but working so close with such a big organization really piqued my interest for the topic, as having direct discussions with the people on the ground with WFP allowed me to understand how much of an overarching problem food security is, affecting all aspects of a person's life.
