About Isabelle Wallace

I'm a Wolastoqew Registered Nurse from Madawaska (Matawaskiye) Maliseet First Nation with over a decade of experience delivering and leading health services in northern, remote, and urban First Nations and Inuit communities. My nursing practice has spanned hospital settings, nursing stations, and community health centres, and I’ve had the opportunity to work at the community, provincial, and federal levels—building a broad and grounded understanding of Indigenous health systems. Currently, I serve as a Nurse Manager at Indigenous Services Canada, where I lead a public health surge team, support complex deployments, and contribute to internal policies and practices that prioritize cultural safety, trauma-informed care, and staff wellness. I mentor frontline nurses and support staff, and I’m passionate about building systems that reflect the strengths and sovereignty of Indigenous Peoples. My leadership style is relational, values-driven, and rooted in respect, clarity, and community accountability. I’m a bilingual, master’s-prepared nurse committed to Indigenous-led health transformation, and I believe the future of public health lies in empowering Indigenous voices, knowledge, and leadership—at all levels.
