Taking care of yourself doesn’t mean me first; it means me too.” L.R. Knost and I have a few things in common. As a driven mental health professional, I take pride in pouring into others while also advocating for mental health professionals to pour into themselves. I believe practicing self-care is the perfect formula to avoid burnout and maximize work-life productivity. And I am a true testimony of that. I am a proud Native and African American woman,first-generation undergraduate, and master’s graduate. I successfully withheld over hours of community service, graduated from a one-year accelerated master’s program, and obtained and landed a job in my career field as an LCSW-A certification at the age of 22. During my many internships, some of my highlights were that I successfully advocated and cultivated revenue to purchase brand new appliances for the school I interned at, I networked with local businesses and developed a food drive to feed over 500 families within Guilford County and trained professional staff on diversity and equity. In my career, I successfully supervised a staff of three and had a caseload of 40 clients for crisis management. I am currently a medical behavioral health provider working alongside medical providers practicing integrative healthcare. This drive and success would not be possible without my core value of practicing self-care. I utilize my clinical expertise to get to where I am today. I am elated to say that I am not finished yet. I have career goals that I am continuing to work towards to inspire and connect mental health professionals to other business professionals. That would not be possible without someone like you!
