About Istvan Rajcan
My research focuses on the genetics of seed compositional traits (e.g, modified fatty acids, isoflavones, vitamin E) for food and industrial applications of soybean. Genetic variation for yield and disease resistance traits is explored using exotic and elite germplasm sources. I collaborate widely with Canadian and international scientists. Field work focuses on phenotyping for a variety of traits including yield and soybean cultivar development in conjunction with genomics approaches in the lab. I am interested in the dynamics of genomic changes over time as a result of plant breeders' efforts. More recently I started a project in organic soybean breeding trying to address the differences in selection pressure under different production systems.
