About Itopa Ajayi

Self-motivated and committed Occupational Health and Safety professional with working experience in the University environment and a large complex governmental institution. Exceptional team player who applies methods rich in collaboration, effective communication, creativity, and inclusivity - all centred around human capacity - to deploy and integrate HSE objectives into the workings of the organisations' safety management system. My guiding principles are three-fold: 1/ to relentlessly pursue engagement and close feedback loops, 2/ perform regular inspections and keep communications simple and 3/ respond to crisis with agility.I achieve these by drawing on my specialities in Auditing (Workplace, infrastructure, chemical and psychosocial), Risk Management and Investigations - applying critical thinking and justifiable decision making in the development of investigative strategies that are adaptable to the situation.I am conversant with developing and delivering strategies to mitigate incidents, build relationships, foster safety culture and align with the legislation, relevant codes of practice and ISOs including 45001. My overarching goal is to facilitate operational excellence in safe working environments and make WHS decisions that are information and data driven.The latitude of my experience also traverses research and teaching in tertiary institutions (within Australia and overseas), formulating policies, drafting SOPs, risk assessments and the provision of operational support.Experienced in leading operations, including managing facilities, coordinating equipment maintenance, animal resources, monitoring compliance and a knack for taking responsibility.My current role involves managing the health and safety requirements of 32 facilities across Metro North Health. Skilled in managing relationships with stakeholders and teams to foster maximum growth. However, I am dedicated to continuous learning and improvement opportunities (both personally and organization-wise) as I recognize that every workplace has unique peculiarities.
