Background
About Itzel Basualdo
Itzel Basualdo is an interdisciplinary artist, writer, administrator, researcher, and educator deeply committed to scholarship, continuous learning, and envisioning and creating new possibilities. With a Master of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from The Honors College at Florida International University, my education serves as the bedrock for my multifaceted career journey. Currently, as the manager of Youth & Family Programs at the Queens Museum, I leverage my educational background to drive impactful initiatives that empower communities and facilitating engagement with critical perspectives through art. I am dedicated to building a more equitable world by ensuring accessibility and inclusivity in all our programs and initiatives, guided by the scholarship of Black, Brown, and Indigenous thinkers. My tenure at institutions such as ICA Miami and MoMA PS1 has provided invaluable opportunities to contribute to the cultural landscape and refine my approach to arts education. At ICA Miami, I oversaw the direction and implementation of the museum’s youth programs, establishing connections with the school district and neighboring schools and creating transformative art-making experiences in K-12 education. Similarly, at MoMA PS1, I coordinated and oversaw the technical and overall production of public programs, working closely with artists and community partner organizations to engage diverse audiences and facilitate meaningful interactions with contemporary art. Drawing on my entrepreneurial spirit as a co-founder of R.I.C.O.R.O.B.O, I bring a dynamic approach to my work, pushing boundaries and fostering collaborative thinking to create innovative solutions.
