About Ivan Suazo

Academic and Executive Leader with extensive experience in university management and administration, recognized for effectively leading and coordinating teaching and research teams in prestigious institutions both in Chile and abroad. I have served as an institutional evaluator in key areas such as Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Research, and possess a deep understanding of the Chilean University System and knowledge management models in Latin America, Spain, and Portugal. I have provided consultancy services to universities in Research and Postgraduate programs. My academic achievements include a Doctorate in Sciences (PhD) from the Federal University of Sao Paulo (Brazil) and another in Health Sciences from the University of Oviedo (Spain). As a Full Professor, I have gained national and international recognition for excellence in teaching and research in biomedical sciences, with 4 specialized books and 120+ publications in international journals. Full profile and publications: I have held executive positions in prestigious Medical and Health Sciences Faculties, directing Doctoral and Master's programs, contributing extensive experience in designing and implementing high-level educational programs. I have been invited to deliver lectures in numerous countries, including Chile, Argentina, Peru, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Ecuador, Mexico, Colombia, United States, Canada, Spain, Germany, United Kingdom, and Portugal. I have also had the honor of being a visiting professor at renowned universities in Brazil and Portugal. As the founder of the Center for Science Communication (https://ciencias.uautonoma.cl/@ciencias_chile), I lead initiatives to promote scientific dissemination and effective communication in the academic sphere. Additionally, I serve as the editor of the International Journal of Medical and Surgical Sciences. Currently, I hold the position of Vice Chancellor for Research and Doctoral Programs at the Universidad Autonoma de Chile, and serve as the Director of the UNESCO Chair in Scientific Education for Citizenship. I am a board member of Crossref (2024-2027), and collaborate with evaluation agencies in Latin America such as EQUAA, as well as agencies in the European Higher Education Area. I am also a senior associate researcher at the University of Oviedo. My specialties encompass academic management, research, health education, open science, and science communication.
