About Ivory Toldson

Dr. Ivory A. Toldson is the Director of Education Innovation and Research at the NAACP, where he leads the efforts to improve educational and economic outcomes for children and families of color. He has over 15 years of experience as a professor of counseling psychology at Howard University, where he also serves as the editor-in-chief of The Journal of Negro Education, a prestigious academic journal that addresses issues of education and race. Dr. Toldson is a former appointee of President Barack Obama, who entrusted him with the role of executive director of the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), where he developed and implemented national strategies to support and expand federal funding and opportunities for HBCUs. He is also a bestselling author, a renowned speaker, and a media commentator, who has used his platform to debunk myths and stereotypes about African Americans and to advocate for policies and programs that empower and uplift them. He is passionate about creating and disseminating evidence-based solutions that address the challenges and opportunities facing Black education and communities.
