About Izzy Hedges

Hello, my name is Isaac Hedges, I am a student at Wake STEM Early College High School who is driven to tackle all challenges that come my way in academics, extra-curriculars, art, and life. I am currently looking for a part time job that helps me explore my interests. My interests and skills include, engineering design, sound/electrical engineering, editing, conservation, and music. As I explore the workforce I am excited to use and combine my interests and skills in future opportunities!I had an amazing opportunity to intern with the City of Raleigh municipal government as a Partnership Raleigh Youth Conservation Corps Member. I learned so many things throughout this internship: plant and animal ID, natural resources data collection (including use of GIS), testing water levels, trail maintenance, city government structure, and so much more that came from experience and advice from so many exceptional professionals. However, the most important thing I learned was how to work cohesively, efficiently, and happily in a team. Despite the initial effort and willingness from everyone, learning how to effectively work together took learning, but eventually we learned how to work to each other's strengths. I am so glad I was able to work and learn so much with the Youth Conservation Corps and am ready to take everything I learned about communication and leadership to my next job!Currently, I am taking classes at both my high school and NCSU. I am so grateful for having access not only to exceptional high school courses but also for the amazing courses at NCSU. This opportunity has helped me push ever closer to college by navigating new academic responsibilities and resources I am given on campus. Outside of school I have been focusing on exploring my interests in sound, engineering, and music through clubs and volunteering. I am actively involved in the robotics team the Techno Wolves; I formerly served as the team lead (2 years) and now mentor members on business strategy, engineering principles, and effective leadership. I have also been involved in Citizens Climate Lobby, live production at Hope community church, and playing bass in the Philharmonic Association's Triangle Youth Jazz Orchestra. There's so much I have learned from each of these and other experiences, but sadly there's not enough space to go into that here. That being said, I am very thankful for the opportunities I have taken in part in so far, and am excited and prepared for what comes next!
