About Ja Morrow

The Montreal newspaper Le Devoir once called me an "idéaliste." I take it as a compliment. By trade, I’m a writer and strategist. If you’ve seen campaigns like Choose Your Latitude, that’s me. But I do more than write clever slogans. I also author books and articles on urban design, sustainability, and community well-being. These days, I focus on developing adaptive strategies for a sustainable future. That means challenging business as usual. So I lead projects that explore new ways to design better urban districts. My approach, likewise, is collaborative and data-informed, with a focus on solving complex problems through foresight and strategic action. As a researcher and educator, I work across disciplines. One day I’m lecturing on writing skills. The next, I’m leading engineering seminars on the built environment or running workshops on using high-throughput science technologies to support Indigenous and local knowledges. In my current role as an urban strategy planner and scholar, I have- Secured over $38m in research funding - Taught more than students at Top 5 programmes in 3 countries - Authored 19 books, reports, chapters, and peer-reviewed articles - Organised 16 conferences, workshops, and roundtables - Advised 8 cities in 4 countries on urban development - Created 6 new university courses using evidence-based practises - Led 4 agency-funded research projects.
